As a woman and mother, I recognize the profound impact of these factors on the field of science, particularly the challenges associated with securing positions, competing for opportunities, and sustaining scientific productivity. These aspects significantly influence both one's career trajectory and overall life. Residing in a country like Brazil, characterized by pervasive social inequality, I, as a university professor, keenly observe the barriers to accessing the benefits of science.
Engaging in forums and networks that address and advocate for initiatives aimed at minimizing these disparities is an integral aspect of the professional and personal journey of a researcher and educator, which I am committed to.

During the EBBS 2023 meeting in Amsterdam (Netherlands), I was given a first introduction to the goals and mission of ALBA. As a graduate student working in the field of behavioral neuroscience while being actively involved in the education of young psychologists, one of my aims is to spread awareness among young students about diversity and equity problems within the research field as a whole, and to promote transparency in research. I believe that becoming a member of ALBA can further help me in this process and I am looking forward to become part of the community.

I joined ALBA because :
In January, 2020 I was appointed as Senior Advisor to the provost on women and gender-diverse faculty at the University of British Columbia, Canada. Since this time, I have been immersed in issues related to equity issues specifically for women, gender diverse faculty and faculty of colour. I led an initiative to put together a team to create a faculty survey to gather data on the effects of COVID-19 on the research, teaching and service workload on faculty. We submitted a report highlighting the disproportionate impact on women and gender diverse faculty. We are now in the process of working with UBC administration to develop solutions to manage this major issue. I am also leading several other initiatives to create a UBC wide policy to increase diversity in conference panels and keynote speakers. There has been increasing attention directed at the lack of diverse representation among invited and keynote speakers and panelists at conferences and meetings. While in principle it is accepted that diversity enhances quality and innovation, contributions from historically, persistently, or systemically marginalized groups are often discounted or ignored, and these groups are often underrepresented at conferences. I have also created a leadership program for junior faculty. The first year (2020) the program was limited to women and gender-diverse faculty. For the current year (2021-2022), I accepted all early career, non-tenured faculty.
