Membership

I'm aware of the gender disparity in many areas of society including science. I think the way to reduce the gap is spreading awareness and dissipate prejudgments abut sex and race. I think this network is a good initiative to encourage the change.

I want to help give better visibility to underrepresented groups in neuroscience, and I’m extremely interested in getting involved in activities that promote these populations. I have been working with the World Association for Cultural Psychiatry (WACP) for over 10 years to promote the inclusion of academics, scientists, and clinicians from underrepresented countries. Specifically, I have worked with the WACP journal, the WCPRR, which publishes quality research papers from these countries. I’m now the incoming editor-in-chief of the WCPRR. I want to work with the ALBA Network to help underrepresented neuroscientists. I’m hoping to learn from ALBA how to better facilitate underrepresented communities and to contribute the approaches that I’ve learned from working with the WACP.

To support women in brain research

I would like to learn more about how to do leadership in an inclusive manner

I am chairwoman of DANWISE (Danish Society for Women in Science), a non-profit organization in Denmark and am also a neuroscientist.

1) I am a woman in Science and would like to make a strong impact on women in Science who are underrepresented not only in India but all over the world by showing if I can do it so you can too...
2) To guide and motivate women in Science I need a good mentorship and I believe this platform could help me.
3) Also I would like to network with others who are working on this agenda.

It is important as a neuroscientist, group-leader and supervisor to pay attention to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion - being part of a european neuroscience network, as ALBA, will aid me in staying at the forefront of best practices to counter bias and discrimination, create awareness on these topics and empower the next generations of neuroscientists.

As a young scientist I was incredibly naive about the gender gap in science and issues such as unconscious bias. As I got older, however, I increasingly found myself sitting in meetings, one of the few female faculty in the room and I started to ask myself where all the women had gone?
I currently live and work in Denmark: a country that can be proud of the fantastic strides it has made with respect to gender equality in society. I am part of a new organisation working to now ensure that this equality will reach into the science realm where, unfortunately, we still lag behind many countries.

I fully support the initiative and would like to be a part of this.

As an Indian woman in science, joining the ALBA Network of FENS would allow me to advocate for diversity and inclusion in neuroscience, gain valuable mentorship, and contribute to dismantling barriers for underrepresented groups. ALBA’s mission aligns with my goals to foster equity and empowerment in the field.

I would like to support diversity within neurosciences and have a voice to help shape the field to be more inclusive.

Because as a young female neuroscientist, I hope to be part of an inclusive and diverse research environment in my research career ahead. I believe one of the first steps in achieving this is creating awareness and role models. I joined ALBA because I hope to be inspired by female scientists and scientists from other underrepresented groups and hopefully also in turn I will be able to inspire future (and established) neuroscientists as well.
