ALBA recognizes that scientific talent is not limited by gender, ethnicity, race, geographical background or geopolitics. It aims to eradicate inequalities of opportunity, discriminatory attitudes, and poor distribution of socioeconomic, educational and research resources, harnessing human potential to the full to advance science. This is why I am joining ALBA.

I think that the principles of diversity, equal chances, transparency and inclusion are fundamental to a safe creative space.

As an underrepresented scientist, I'm eager to join ALBA to contribute to its mission of empowering scientists, provide development opportunities and increase the visibility of underrepresented voices.

I am a Sikh neuroscientist working in Europe. Sikh scientists in the western world face numerous challenges due to their underrepresented status. These challenges range from a lack of representation, biases and stereotypes, the struggle to balance their religious and professional identities, and limited access to resources and networks. Addressing these challenges requires a collective effort from scientific communities, policymakers, and society as a whole to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all scientists, regardless of their background. Thus, ALBA network can provide such platform for many such underreprented groups. By becoming part of this network, not only I could represent myself better but also help other underrepresented brain scientists accross globe.

Definitely a topic ALBA is working on which needs further support. And I hope to can contribute with my support.

I only became aware of the Alba network for the prize application. But I also hope for increased visibility and a chance to start a partnering collaboration with Roche based on two of my translational research efforts - neuronal screening of neurodegeneration and better treatments for pathological neovascularization.

I'm interested in engaging in the development and exploration of strategies to mitigate cultural biases in neuroscience to foster and promote an inclusive and equitable community.

Because I would like to help eliminate systemic imbalances or biases in research.

I want to join the ALBA Network to actively promote diversity and equality in neuroscience, collaborate with like-minded professionals, and access valuable resources. By being part of ALBA, I can contribute to creating an inclusive environment that supports and uplifts underrepresented groups in our field.

If we learned anything during this pandemic, open collaboration could speed up the science dramatically. The open science approach's effectiveness convinced me to share our data using preprint servers before publication and always collaborate without reservation.
