The Network

ALBA represents a global diverse network of individual neuroscientists who are involved in research, education, communication and advocacy, and are committed to supporting and advocating for actions and policies that foster diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in brain sciences across the globe. We currently have 1890 individual members from 91 countries.

I joined ALBA because :
I want to join the Alba network because I recognize myself in each of its missions:
- I'm part of an INSERM committee aimed at parity and professional equity, and I promote diversity in my own team (i.e., equal numbers of men and women, presence of several people from groups under-represented in neuroscience in my group) ;
- It's very important for me to mentor students to make them excellent scientists. I do my utmost to encourage all my young colleagues in their scientific careers, especially those from diverse and under-represented groups;
- I encourage not only the development of top-level research, but also best practice in ethics and deontology.

I joined ALBA because :
While being a neuroscientist working in France, I had the chance during my carreer to meet and work with fellows from diverse parts of the world and from underrepresented countries or groups. I do believe that unlocking the code of the Brain does require to veawe together all forces independently of geopolitical issues or gender. Yet, despite many progresses we still need to empower brain Science to be Diverse, Equitable and Inclusive. This mission is even more evident nowadays as we are facing a strong menace in many countries where scientists from underrepresented groups are persecuted or stopped in their studies or research. Therefore I want to add my voice to the important mission of ALBA.

I joined ALBA because :
The ALBA network provides a great opportunity to interact and learn from well-establish scientists around the world who share a common ground with early-career scientists from underrepresented groups. After my undergraduate and graduate studies, I felt some kind of void when prospecting myself in a future career. Mostly as the result of being a gay queer and Afro-Latino scientist, who has done research across five countries and, still, has poorly seen a significant representation of minorities in neurosciences. The ALBA network brings a substantial level toward the change of the landscape for the scientific and social representation in neurosciences.

I joined ALBA because :
I believe that active action is needed to help the underrepresented groups to overcome the additional hurdles in their scientific careers. The Alba network is an excellent initiative in that sense and I would like to help in any way I can.
