The Network

ALBA represents a global diverse network of individual neuroscientists who are involved in research, education, communication and advocacy, and are committed to supporting and advocating for actions and policies that foster diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in brain sciences across the globe. We currently have 1890 individual members from 91 countries.

I joined ALBA because :
I intend to be part of a research community were I can be mentored continuously to fuel my zeal for research. Interestingly I am currently working on a research on toxicology of which might require funding in the nearest future and as a result , I believe when I present such idea here, it will arouse the interest of this research body. Thus your advice and directions will provide the recognition I need to push on.

I joined ALBA because :
I want to join the Alba network because I recognize myself in each of its missions:
- I'm part of an INSERM committee aimed at parity and professional equity, and I promote diversity in my own team (i.e., equal numbers of men and women, presence of several people from groups under-represented in neuroscience in my group) ;
- It's very important for me to mentor students to make them excellent scientists. I do my utmost to encourage all my young colleagues in their scientific careers, especially those from diverse and under-represented groups;
- I encourage not only the development of top-level research, but also best practice in ethics and deontology.

I joined ALBA because :
Identifying and removing implicit biases against underrepresented groups in education is not straightforward - especially for privileged groups like mine, who never faced discrimination. In ALBA network I found a comprehensive guide for concrete actions promoting equity and inclusion, within an excellent framework for monitoring and improving those actions.

I joined ALBA because :
I support health equity by advocating for the inclusion of sex and gender as variables in neuroscience research. DEI in both research and education is fundamental to create a safe environment for trainees and marginalized groups and resolve uneven distribution of power across institutions’ hierarchy

I joined ALBA because :
By joining the ALBA Network, you demonstrate your commitment to promoting change in neuroscience, specifically in terms of equal opportunities. It provides you with tools to network and collaborate with other experts in the field. Through mentoring programs, I can contribute to fostering a positive change in the field, promoting a more inclusive and equitable future for all of us. I have a keen interest in this topic due to my personal experience as a female neuroscientist and mother of three, two of whom are also girls. I actively participated in creating a local support network for female researchers during my postdoctoral stage, called 'STEM Circuits.' I am delighted to be a part of a larger network that focuses on my research field.
