I am an assistant professor of neuroscience and I work in multiple sub-fields that do not have a lot of women in them. I am passionate about improving inequities in the system when it comes to women and other underrepresented groups.

Recently I was invited for a talk organised by BiasWatch India. This is when I was introduced to ALBA network. Gender disparity is a burning issue in STEM fields. Women are under-represented. To cite this, recently when I submitted a recommendation letter for my postdoc, I received an auto reply which said "Dear Sir", Thank you for submitting the letter. I was quite shocked ! This is real under representation. I have also had break in career due to maternity and subsequently tried hard to enter mainstream and have succeeded. Would like to share my experience with upcoming scientists which may motivate them.

I am joining ALBA due to my deep passion for neuroscience and the recognition of the pivotal role diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) play in the field. I believe that diversity is not only a moral imperative but also a catalyst for scientific excellence, fostering innovation and addressing complex challenges. In joining ALBA, I aim to contribute to a community that values diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. The organization's emphasis on research, education, communication, and advocacy aligns with my aspirations to actively shape the future of brain sciences. I am enthusiastic about participating in a collective effort to promote DEI, dismantle barriers, and ensure equal opportunities for neuroscientists globally. Joining ALBA represents a meaningful step toward contributing to a global movement that advances neuroscience while championing DEI in the pursuit of knowledge and scientific excellence.

I am interested to ioun the community and get a better exposure

Because the higher I go in my career, the more troubles I face to get funding and opportunities for being a single woman in their 30s (They may think that I will have "other" priorities that come with age, which doesn't happen when you are a man).

I am interested in being a part of a network of like-minded scientists, working towards creating an inclusive environment in the biomedical sciences.

Promote diversity in Science

I got to know about Alba Network during EBBS 2021, and after one year I really admire the progress that this organization is making. Thus, I decided to be part of this effort and give my small contribution.

I am very motivated to join ALBA because I believe that we all work to break prejudice and inequalities in academia

There are so many inequities in the world, even in science, and I want to be part of the change.

I agree with the mission statement

The challenge posed by a complete understanding of the brain and its disorders is huge: we need all talents, all possible resources available, we need to be inclusive to move forward and to face this challenge.

I believe is important to be part of the change, and ALBA is helping to improve science.
