I aim to contribute to and promote diversity and diverse perspectives in neurobiological research and neuroethics.

Recognizing the invaluable benefits that diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences bring to any environment, I strive to play a proactive role in creating and sustaining an inclusive atmosphere. This commitment involves embracing diversity by actively participating in initiatives, conversations, and actions that celebrate differences and promote equitable opportunities for everyone.

As a Latino woman, I am motivated to lead and promote neuroscience research among underrepresented minorities. An example of this commitment is highlighted in my published review summarizing and underlining the contributions of Latin America-based neuroscientists studying the interaction between stress and addiction (PMID: 30622500). Other examples are my close communication with scientists from Colombia, Argentina, Chile and Mexico and my participation in multiple events sponsored by the International Brain Research Organization, the Federation of Latin American and Caribbean Neurosciences and the Colombian College of Neuroscience. I am interested in expanding my network of researchers and collaborators, helping to guide me through the process of transitioning from postdoctoral fellow to an academic position, which would contribute greatly to my career development, and promote my own ambition of becoming an advocate for underrepresented neuroscientists.

The mission of the ALBA network resonates with me and I want to do my part to ensure a more inclusive and equitable environment in academia for all.

I am honoured to be joining Alba as an Advisor. Such networks are essential if we are to remove biases and enable better visibility to under represented groups. Science should be meritocratic. It is our duty to create a culture with no barriers to those wanting to contribute to knowledge.

My name is Nguyen Tran Minh Duc. I am a medical doctor and ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) advocate. My journey began when I cared for my uncle with ALS, which led me to establish ALS Vietnam. This foundation supports Vietnamese individuals and families affected by ALS. https://benhals.com/

Currently, I am pursuing a PhD in ALS drug discovery and serve on the Advocacy and Public Policy Advisory Council (APPAC). Joining the ALBA Network aligns with my commitment to diversity and equality in neuroscience. ALBA, meaning sunrise, symbolizes the dawn of a new era. Neuroscience has traditionally lagged in these areas, but we are now experiencing significant progress. ALBA aims to catalyze this momentum, ensuring equal opportunities for all brain scientists.

I am excited to contribute to ALBA's mission and help illuminate a brighter, more inclusive future for our scientific community.

Dr. Tremblay deeply advocates for practices that support those marginalized by the academy, including the use of inclusive language, increased stipends/salaries and adjustable work time for trainees from equity-deserving and underrepresented groups. She is a first-generation college and University student, a woman, and a non-native English speaker, a Francophone from the province of Quebec. She has lived experience as a friend and a family caregiver with various forms of mental illness and dementia, including major depressive disorder and Alzheimer’s disease. She regularly leads initiatives to help students, postdocs, and researchers, notably from groups facing gender and sex discrimination, thrive in science. She is hoping to help support equity, diversity and inclusion, as well as accessibility, beyond her institution, lab environment and research field by joining Alba.

I want to join the conversation and engage with your efforts based on shared values. I believe that awareness and courage about our society's aims to flourish should be supported and need broad active participation.

Bacause I support the role and leadershipt that they take to make all different under represented groups visible in the scientific field.

I belong to a developing nation and am a female, and the idea of spreading equality within scientific world and bridging through the diversity and prejudices is very appealing for me.
