The ALBA Network stands against discrimination

The ALBA Network reaffirms its mission and stands against discrimination

In the context of the worldwide protests and expressions of support to the #BlackLivesMatter movement, the ALBA Network would like to reiterate its full support and dedication to the cause. ALBA stands against racism, discrimination and inequities.

Today, ALBA’s core mission appears truer than ever: to promote inclusion, diversity and equity across all fields of brain research. Science has a tremendous impact on society. The protests held in the past few weeks make it clearer than ever that we need to act now to change the system.

This revolution requires a commitment from all of us. This is the moment to resolve the gap between our claimed convictions and our unconscious prejudices.

The ALBA Network was founded on the principles of promoting diversity and equity in brain sciences. We aim to raise awareness of existing biases – both conscious and implicit, to propose measures to counteract them and to offer a safe space for underrepresented groups in science to express themselves.

As a community of scientists we believe policy should be based on data. Black scientists are underrepresented. Excellence depends on engaging all great scientists, we have a long way to go but we have to start addressing inequity.

We invite brain researchers from around the world to join us in strengthening our efforts to combat discrimination of all kinds.
