I joined ALBA because :
Promoting equality and diversity in the brain sciences is an important topic for me. I believe this issue is two-fold: On the one hand, we need more diverse neuroscientists; on the other hand, we need to understand human diversity so that more populations are represented. Throughout my career, I have studied human diversity by comparing people of diverse cultures with and without mental disorders using neuroimaging technique. My reason behind this is to understand underrepresented communities so that we may have a more inclusive model of how the human brain functionally processes information. I am an assistant editor and junior member of the World Association of Cross-Cultural Psychiatry - whose journal actively includes scientists from underrepresented countries. During graduate school, I also founded their Student and Trainee Section.

As a neuroscientist and clinical psychologist, I now work to promote well-being in academia. I work one-on-one with post-grads, postdocs, early career researchers and faculty to help reduce burnout, overwhelm, anxiety and fear. My goal is to foster a dialogue regarding the well-being and performance of our academic community (I have a particular fond spot for neuroscientists) and I hope to widen the scope of that discussion with ALBA.
