As A female Iranian immigrant to the UK, I know first-hand how difficult it can be to feel accepted as a member of the scientific community, therefore, I always look to be engaged with society and develop my networking.

I joined ALBA because :
I believe in the power of informal professional networks, and have experienced the unique strength of female networks. I feel like this is one key way in which imbalances and under-representation can be corrected, via mentoring, sharing of opportunities, and removing the tired excuse of "we couldn't find enough female/minority speakers for our conference". I want to be part of this, and hope to both benefit and contribute in equal parts to the network to bring about the change our field needs.
