The Network

ALBA represents a global diverse network of individual neuroscientists who are involved in research, education, communication and advocacy, and are committed to supporting and advocating for actions and policies that foster diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in brain sciences across the globe. We currently have 1890 individual members from 91 countries.

I joined ALBA because :
I fully believe that we should raise awareness of gender and diversity issues in brain science and promote equality, as the ALBA network claims. This will only be possible if we actively engage in these processes and help each other to work in a better environment.

I joined ALBA because :
Fully agree with the objectives of this network, I plan to contribute to its success.

Anne

Professor or equivalent position at INSERM
France Website
Gender : Woman
Fields of research :
Cognitive neuroscience
Disorders of the nervous system
Analysis of behavior and cognition in humans
Pharmacology
I joined ALBA because :
I am strongly aware of my own and others' biases. I think that it is only by speaking about it and reflecting upon it that we can address this issue. For these reasons I am enthusiastic about Alba's initiative

Sylvie

Professor or equivalent position at Paris-Saclay Institut of neuroscience
France Website
Gender : Woman
Fields of research :
Behavioral neuroscience
Cognitive neuroscience
Disorders of the nervous system
Neuropharmacology and neurochemistry
Analysis of behavior and cognition in humans
Analysis of behavior and cognition in non-human animal
Histochemistry and tracing
Imaging (PET, fMRI, etc)
I joined ALBA because :
I feel very much in tune with the goals ALBA intend to achieve, particularly the networking aspect that could promote collaborative science, mentoring, data access, be informed of putative collaborators who share common view of science and good practice, and how it should be conducted, to avoid or decrease the impact of powerful lobbies.

Gender : Woman
Fields of research :
Other
Neural/synaptic structure and function
Neurophysiology
Biophysics
Electrophysiology (synaptic physiology)
Imaging (microscopy)
Molecular approaches
I joined ALBA because :
I have a strong interest in studying the challenges that first generation college students face while pursuing a career in Neuroscience, from the lack of guidance at University and during early career, lack of time if working part time while studying, like of financial means to get the time and the opportunities to build a career, lack of role models, imposter syndrome…

Gender : Woman
Fields of research :
Behavioral neuroscience
Circuit neuroscience
Cognitive neuroscience
History, teaching, public awareness, and societal
Neural/synaptic structure and function
Analysis of behavior and cognition in non-human animal
Electrophysiology (slow waves)
Electrophysiology (synaptic physiology)
Electrophysiology (unit activity)
In vivo monitoring
Optical methods
I joined ALBA because :
I have spent a good part of my professional life mentoring and promoting the careers of young neuroscientists in the developing world, mainly through the IBRO network. In the emertia phase of my career, I have more time and energy to devote to this cause and would be pleased to do this through the Alba network.

Analysis of behavior and cognition in humans
Computation, modeling, and simulation
Electrophysiology (channels)
Imaging (PET, fMRI, etc)
I joined ALBA because :
I am already engaged into promoting diversity as well as friendly, respectful and encouraging environments in my field of research, through the way I lead my team, through my teaching practice, and through my engagement in scientific communities.
I would like to give a more institutional form to this engagement, and connect with people sharing the same practice and objectives.

I joined ALBA because :
I am joining Alba to fight inequities that under-represented groups are facing in science. I am involved notably in developing concrete interventions based on the literature dealing with the inequalities that women face in their scientific careers as well as the unconscious biases at play in the discrimination processes.
