The Network

ALBA represents a global diverse network of individual neuroscientists who are involved in research, education, communication and advocacy, and are committed to supporting and advocating for actions and policies that foster diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in brain sciences across the globe. We currently have 1890 individual members from 91 countries.

Sara
Carta

Graduate student at Trinity College Dublin

Gender : Woman
Fields of research :
Cognitive neuroscience
Electrophysiology (channels)
I joined ALBA because :
As a woman in science, I think it is particularly important to join networks and communities, such as the Alba Network, that promote diversity and inclusivity. I am excited to become part of a diverse scientific community, which can benefit both my academic and human experience.

Cassandra
Dinius

Postdoctoral fellow at Maynooth University
Ireland
Gender : Woman
Fields of research :
Cognitive neuroscience
Developmental neuroscience
Neuroscience of aging
Analysis of behavior and cognition in humans
Data analysis and statistics
I joined ALBA because :
My personal connections to cognitive aging disorders have led me to take interest in and become involved in community programs aimed at supporting individuals living with with dementia. Through disseminating research, facilitating support groups, and leading classes to educate about brain health and healthy aging, I am able to connect with individuals affected by such disorders while serving hard-to-reach populations and practicing science communication. I believe that ALBA will help me further limit bias and connect with others who come from underserved groups to better advocate for science communication, and hopefully adoption, with people of all groups.

Gender : Woman
Fields of research :
Disorders of the nervous system
Analysis of behavior and cognition in non-human animal
In vivo monitoring
Species : vertebrate
I joined ALBA because :
I am joining Alba because I believe in its mission to increase diversity in neuroscience.

Data analysis and statistics
Electrophysiology (channels)
Electrophysiology (slow waves)
Imaging (PET, fMRI, etc)
I joined ALBA because :
I believe in the importance of promoting equality and diversity in brain science to benefit both the scientists and the general population.

Gender : Woman
Fields of research :
Behavioral neuroscience
Circuit neuroscience
Genetic models and techniques
Imaging (microscopy)
Species : invertebrate
I joined ALBA because :
Because I am interested in gender equality and representation of minorities in academia. I also find interesting that everyone says woman are a minority while actually we are half of the human population.

I joined ALBA because :
I believe I share ALBA views in many ways. My actions and concerns are aligned with ALBA Mission. In my career, conscious awareness concerning inequities was progressively increasing. In part due to personal experiences, also through theoretical readings and mainly acknowledging the impact of them in the results of my research. Ironically, worldwide tragic events from 2020, allowed that these introspections and isolate initiatives become visible and unsilent. My affiliation with ALBA will help me to find other people who share and support these values, to learn from them and in synergy make stronger actions towards equity and respect to diversity.

I joined ALBA because :
I come from a multi-racial, multi-ethnic family, instilling in me a belief in social and racial integration. However, academia's institutionalized prejudice challenges my pursuit of diversity. My experiences and advocacy as a neurodiverse woman of color in STEM underscore my commitment to fostering an inclusive and representative environment.

I joined ALBA because :
As young female researcher and an international student holding weak passport, I constantly suffer from the inequalities along my pursuit of science. ALBA network dedicates to recognise and counteract these biases by providing networking and mentoring opportunities to promote careers for members of underrepresented groups like myself.
